Lilla Vu is currently the leader in the Rolex Player of the Year standings with a 30 point lead. But, after getting beat in a playoff this past weekend, is she really the best the LPGA has to offer?
Vu is currently ranked 1st, ahead of Celine Boutier of France and Yin Ruoning of China, who are tied for 2nd. The top-10 is a virtual world golf map with six different countries featured in the top-10 standings.
"It's tough out here," said Boutier.
Boutier, who lives and trains in Dallas, has won both on the American tour and the European women's tour and won her first major this year, the 2023 Evian Championship. Boutier is especially dangerous because of her pedigree. A standout in college at Duke, she is a former WAGR No. 1 ranked amateur.
Ruoning is another of the up and coming Chinese players who are becoming stars. She won the 2023 Women's PGA Championship to become only the second Chinese player to win a major. More importantly, she has won big as a young player, setting things up for a great showdown through the stretch. In her young career she has won twice on tour.
Realistically, in addition to Boutier, and Ruoning, there are four other players with a chance to catch Vu.
There is plenty of time for players to make up ground. The 2023 Rolex Player of the Year will be crowned after the last LPGA event the first week of November.
