Golf course design is like a sexy date. They come in all shapes and forms, but they are still sexy. Traditional designs like Oakmont and Oak Hill utilize tight spaces and well bunkered fairways, while newer courses are designed over larger parcels of land, featuring more natural habitats. Regardless, each has their own set of challenges.
Clubhouse Golf Talk polled 20 golfers of all levels, and their answers seemed to mirror one another. They liked the traditional layouts much more than the newer models.
Oakmont was No. 1 on the list, followed by Pine Valley. Interestingly enough, Augusta National did not get a single vote at the top, but Oak Hill did. At the end of the day, players want to play the most iconic venues in the country to experience the very best golf has to offer.
